Auckland clip the Eagle’s wings to win the Croc Cup
The Auckland Rugby Union side has broken the SRC Borneo Eagles' stranglehold on the Heineken Hottest 7s Croc Cup to win the title on their first visit to the top end.
Led by player of the tournament Jona Tuitoga, the New Zealand unit took the game up to the reigning champs and the Malaysian side could go with them. Coming into the tournament as the third seeds, Auckland has impressed everybody with their free-flowing rugby and power running.
The Borneo side was strong throughout the Hottest 7s but Auckland always had that little bit extra and in the final it showed where the New Zealand side ran in six tries to three to win by 17 points.
Congratulations Auckland and commiserations Borneo and we hope to see you both next year.
